On September 10, 2015, Dr. Claire Kolar received the 2015-2016 Wertheimer Leadership Fellowship for her work in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL). This annual award is provided to encourage and recognize leadership qualities and aspirations among Ph.D. students in the Social and Administrative Pharmacy Graduate Program.
Dr. Kolar’s application profiled her work supporting educational innovation at the Wulling Center, and her work as coordinator for the MinneSOTL blog, which seeks to document and advance SOTL at the U of M College of Pharmacy However, her efforts have not been limited to local initiatives. Over the last year, Dr. Kolar has worked with the editorial boards at Currents in Pharmacy Teaching and Learning and INNOVATIONS in Pharmacy to examine existing literature and propose new article types to better profile the SOTL in pharmacy education. As a result of these debates, she has co-authored two articles discussing the types of SOTL needed and guidelines for education related Case Study Reports and Idea Papers, with more articles in progress.
Dr. Kolar is invested in innovations related to leadership development. She has received two grants to support a Women in Leadership initiative and a grant to support advancements in leader development for student pharmacists in our Leadership Emphasis Area. Dr. Kolar is particularly interested in methods for teaching the patient care process and looks forward to joining the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Council of Faculties Faculty Affairs Committee this year on its Curricular Adoption and Integration workgroup (announcement here, page 4), as they discuss the Joint Commission’s Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process.
Congratulations to Dr. Kolar and thank you for your efforts to advance pharmacy education!
